I DO NOT KNOW

My God is love; my will is free,
Nature's spirit lives in me,
I am the bird I am the bee,
I share the sap that grows the tree.
Clothed in sun and in the rain,
In the snow and frost of Winter pain,
I am the flower and the grain,
A single link in the living chain.
'Tis all I am, the fish; the whale,
The singing thrush, the nightingale.
The sea that ebbs on broken shale,
The water in the rusted pale.
Yet who I am, I do not know,
Nor from where I came, nor to where I'll go.
