If I had a machine to wash with,
I'd have nowhere to plug in the cord,
And I'd not have enough clean water
and no soap could I afford.
If I ate some food for breakfast
I would have none left to eat for lunch,
And the flies that are swarming around me
are getting so hard to crunch.
The Sun is my only lantern
but I can't switch it on at night,
As I lie out here in the open,
Though it seems I'm out of sight.
Though I'm always forever hoping,
Someone will help me in my plight.

I love my family and all my children,
but most of them have died,
And my heart so many times broken,
Is now also dead inside.
We have prayed to the God in heaven,
But the good Lord never hears,
and thousands of us perish,
and it is useless shedding tears.
What have we done I ask you?
What have we done to be punished so?
We have no home to live in,
And we have no where to go
Why will you not come to help us,
And save us from our woe?

Yes my skin is black and sunburned,
I am an African proud and true,
My people have lived here for centuries,
and have been exploited by all of you.
You have taken away our culture,
Taken all the riches from our lands,
You came here like the vulture,
with greedy selfish hands.
But now that we have nothing,
now there is nothing left to take,
We are left here slowly rotting,
for there is no give and take.
Why is it that we're forgotten...?
Or was it someone else's mistake?
