WE WIN OR YIELD

Of all the processes designed to do its work,
From which no country on the Earth can shirk,
The fundamental ingredient is the act of war
Which fits the natural guide lines of life's law.
Part of the struggle is the desire to survive
The elements that would overcome us to deprive;
To compete; to kill and to succeed
That we maintain the uniqueness of our seed.
For what the Tower of Babel is meant to show
Is that peace on Earth we were never meant to know.
For life, though wondrous, is cruel and never calm;
Designed to bring us joy and bring us harm.
And soldiers are the nettles in the field,
Who like all forms of life do win or yield.
